Talk It Out, Feel The Change

Counselling is a confidential*, non-threatening process that has, as its main goal, the creation of a collaborative space for clients to discover more about themselves and the issues that cause them difficulties. It often involves clients gaining clarity, perspective, and/or making changes in their lives while being supported through the counselling process. It can be helpful to have an impartial, empathic listener to help explore, reflect, and problem solve when difficulties emerge in life. These difficulties may present in personal, work, family, relationship, or other situations.

Counselling is a purposeful endeavour that facilitates being heard, hearing yourself, getting support, inquiring into the unknown, taking action, goal and intention setting, and making new connections and insights. It may help clients re-establish a sense of balance, purpose, and wholeness within themselves, in the interactions they have, in their functioning in and outside of work and family and in the relationships in which they are engaged.

 * there are legal and ethical limits to confidentiality which will be explored and explained at the outset of counselling.

Benefits of Counselling

There is an empirical body of evidence that speaks to the benefits of counselling (particularly for issues like anxiety and depression but definitely not limited to them.) Despite the very unfortunate stigma that is still attached to mental health issues and reaching out for help - connecting with a trained helper in the moments of personal difficulty or the pained experiences crisis or trauma can be exceptionally helpful. The counselling relationship is based on principles of mutual respect, positive regard, confidentiality, safety, non-judgementalness, and hope.

Counselling may involve:

  • reflecting, examining, and evaluating the way you think, feel, or behave
  • coming to a better understanding of your ideas, values, needs, and desires and discovering life-patterns and motivations
  • gaining insight and clarity into self and others by exploring relational connections and individual processes
  • exploring and resolving long-standing sadness, hurts, and traumas
  • trying out new or modified approaches  to improve, change, or heal circumstances
